Craft & Handwork
So much of an architect's mental space is accessed through the computer. While drawings and models
allow one to experience the scale and materiality of a project through a relationship to the body, CAD programs with their easy zoom capabilities do not.
The following pages contain realized and continuing projects which relate to my environment through various media, materials, and differing levels of digitalization. Including product and graphic design, some were inspired by practical or theoretical projects from my academic training, and others influence current architectural ideas realized in more concretly architectural proposals.
Through the distractions that exist, and the abstractions of the profession, these projects allow me to concentrate on solving problems, learning from known techniques, and the act of creation. To varying degrees they foster patience, perseverance, tranquility, and discovery. Through diligence and repetition, they allow me to hone particular skills, let my mind wander, and understand common objects and their spatial implications, They sometimes show parallels with projects done before, or lead to new projects entirely.
